The Israeli “Shock and Awe” Campaign continues

January 12, 2009

Some links about the continuing Israeli attack on the Gaza Strip:

On January 3, 2009, Israel expanded its aerial blitzkrieg of Gaza into a full-fledged invasion with thousands of troops backed by tanks and air support.

According to various reports, the death toll now stands at over 800 with thousands more wounded. Even the Red Cross has accused Israel of “shocking” casualties. In one especially shocking incident according to the UN, witnesses claim that “Israeli forces moved about 110 Palestinians into a house, told them to stay inside, and later shelled it repeatedly, killing about 30 people.”

There have been significant protests against the Gaza invasion around the world. A website chronicling the protests can be found at Gazaprotest.org.

Israel has possibly used chemical weapons like White Phosphorous, though it has been denied. This is the same weapon that the USA and its allies like Britain have used against Iraq such as the sacking of Fallujah in 2004–albeit for the purpose of “illumination” or as a “smokescreen.”

The reasons for the invasion of Gaza are not exactly credible and are driven by other geopolitical and domestic agendas beyond the casus belli of Hamas rockets fired from the Gaza Strip.

More ominously, there are reports of an “unusually large” shipments of arms being sent by the USA to Israel. This suggests the possibility of an escalation of the Gaza attack into a broader regional conflagration against Lebanon, Syria, or even Iran.

The USA has once again vetoed a UN resolution against the Israeli invasion, and the United States Congress has passed a resolution condemning Hamas and supporting the Israeli assault.

The USA, Britain, Canada, and European Union are all important sponsors of Israel. But then again, this is to be expected. After all, Western war criminals must naturally support Israeli war criminals, to whom they are allied.

As Theodor Herzl, ideological father of Zionism, stated in his explanation of why the Jewish state should be created and supported by the West:

For Europe we shall serve there as part of the fortified wall against Asia, and function as the vanguard of civilisation against the Barbarians. As a neutral state we shall keep our ties with all the European nations, who will guarantee our existence there.

Herzl wrote these words in 1896. Over a century later, they ring more true than ever.
